Lioness usually goes by the name of Jennifer Lyon :)

I am an experienced, professional translator of French into English, my mother tongue. I was born and educated in the UK, and completed my Master's Degree in Translation with Language Technology at the University of Wales, Swansea in 2005. I have lived in two different areas of France (one north, one south) for six years in total, earning, learning and perfecting my knowledge of French language and culture.

For four of those years I worked an in-house translator in SW France, and gained invaluable experience of the translation industry in "turbo mode"! As part of a small but mighty team I honed my adaptability in response to the fast-paced and constantly shifting nature of our tasks. As well as the regular work of translating, rereading and corresponding with clients, I single-handedly managed several large, time-critical and very technical dossiers, always delivering high-quality work on time.

Over thirteen years of translation work I have amassed a range of specialities (see "translation" page). In 2020 I completed a Master’s degree (MSc) in Renewable Energies, partly due to my own eco-passion and curiosity, and partly due to a certainty that this sector will continue its exponential rise and deliver new, urgently-needed solutions. However, every new piece of translation and proofreading work in any area contains something of interest and offers a new opportunity to discover a new subject in detail.

Since returning to the UK in 2014 I have been based in north-west England, near Kendal (see map), close to the beautiful Howgill Fells and the Lake District where I hike, run and race regularly.
